A Message from the Founder
August 31, 2007

Dear Readers:

The Baobab Cultural Center is beginning its third year this September. We have come this far thanks to the continued support of our many patrons, members and donors.

Over the past 2 years, more than 5,000 patrons have enjoyed our educational, entertaining and enlightening programs. Numerous private events have been hosted with special interest groups. Children, teachers, public officials, young professionals and college students, book clubs, artists, filmmakers, scholars from local universities, writers, poets, business leaders, yoga enthusiasts, and people of all creeds, races, ethnicities, age groups, and cultural interests walk through our doors. The center has become the melting pot where diversity is celebrated through stimulating discussion.

We are thus proud to contribute to the social consciousness of the community. Bridging different cultures is integral to our mission. As the only place wholly dedicated to community dialogue on social and civic issues, we are thus serving a critical need and are proud to be an asset to this lovely community.

We are stepping up the quality and consistency of our programming to benefit a wider audience and sustain the interests of our patrons. Patrons can enhance personal cultural development goals through our semi-structured curriculum and with unique programs.

Four ways to participate in the Baobab Cultural Center are:
  1. Annual membership. This grants free access to all our educational programs and social events.
  2. Trimester subscription. A trimester of programs includes art exhibits, films, documentaries and lectures to stimulate dialogue between participants.
  3. Individual programs. Attend individual events/programs for a modest fee.
  4. Space rental. Patrons can rent the Baobab space for private education and cultural events. Members receive a 30% discount.

Benefits of subscribing to our programs:
Besides enabling broad community dialogue and social consciousness on the diverse needs in the community, our programs are designed to expose teachers, social workers, and human resources experts to unique assets that deepen their appreciation for African, Caribbean and African-American high culture. Children and youth will also be exposed to images of life outside their nuclear neighborhoods, especially life in Africa and the West Indies. Our increasingly integrated world expects a deeper appreciation for different cultures. The Baobab will henceforth be YOUR resource center and will guide you on a journey rooted and routed in African values.

The Village Council and I look forward to welcoming you during this new season. We appreciate your membership and count on your donations to move our mission forward.

Yours truly,
Moka Lantum
